Chapter 22

Logan was so exhausted he could barely think straight, but he kept the fairy over his shoulder for the entire jog back to the safe house. Adare was working every contact he had to find Ivar, and Logan had to get some sleep before he continued. It had been too long. Even for him.

They reached the apartment, and he dumped Mercy on the bed. “Tell me where Ivar is.”

Her face lost some of the fury. “I really don’t know. There are zillions of dimensions, and Niall could’ve taken him anywhere.”

Damn it. Hopefully the Viking could teleport home. Logan eyed the dark circles beneath Mercy’s eyes. “Here’s the deal. Get in bed, be quiet, and go to sleep. One peep out of you, and I’ll tie you to the bed.” The idea perked his cock right up, but he shoved arousal away. If he didn’t get some sleep, he’d be no use finding either Ivar or Sam.

Mercy glared at him but dropped her wet clothing on the floor before sliding into bed, wearing only her bra and panties. “There have to be pajamas here.”

He paused. “You require silk, Your Majesty?”

She snorted. “Well, I am accustomed to such. We take only the best back with us.”

So his little fairy was a mite spoiled. Good to know. “Go to sleep.”

She sat up partway, and the covers slid down her bare skin. “Bossy.”

His balls drew up tight. She was trying to kill him. Were fairies part witch? He’d believe it right now. He kept her gaze while drawing his shirt over his head and then shucking his boots and jeans.

She licked her lips, settling back into the bed.

The mark on his palm heated as if even Fate was against him. How the hell could the mark appear for a crazy Fae who did nothing but drive him insane? He yanked up the covers and slid in, stretching out to his full length.

She rolled onto her side toward him, her face cushioned on her hand. “Should we talk about the mark?”

Right now, he wanted to plant it on her ass. Hard. When he’d seen her running through the rain and jumping in the taxi, he’d nearly lost his mind. He sighed and watched her from his peripheral vision. “Sure. You go first.”

“It’ll go away if not used, so you should stop worrying about it.” She yawned, looking like a small kitten.

Well. “You know, in some circles, I’m considered a catch.” He let his amusement show as his body finally relaxed one muscle at a time.

She chuckled. “I’m sure you are. But we’re in an untenable position, and if we don’t figure a way out, our people will go to war.”

He was no longer amused. “Baby? Your people would lose.”

“Maybe.” She snuggled closer, and gardenias filled his senses. “Maybe not. We have pretty good weapons and defenses. And we can teleport anywhere, while you can’t.”

She made a good argument. But he had the entire Realm—so the Fae couldn’t win. And he certainly couldn’t let her get hurt, so he had to figure out a way to fix this situation.
